There’s a lot of things I wanted to do in my 20s but “mentally grappling with the reality of living through a worldwide fascist insurgency” wasn’t one of them
A little PSA about ASL for ‘Thank you’! I’ve had all of these signed to me accidentally hahaha. And whenever I sign thank you to non signers, sometimes they thought I was blowing a kiss to them. T_T
apparently stan lee finally died of shitty old bitch disease and i better not see anyone acting like he was anything more than a sack of shit who sexually harassed multiple women and injected racism into marvel comics for decades
just cuz he died doesnt make him suddenly deserving of respect
Hey I cant defend the second bit but the bit about sexual harassment were proven false and in fact they were investigated for allegations of elder abuse against stan lee
You don’t have to defend the second bit. Stan Lee said he’d be fine if Spider Man was originally Black, Hispanic, Indian, or anything. He just didn’t want an already established character to change their identity. He said if you want a character that’s different, just make a different character, which is exactly what happened.
Tumblr is just being Tumblr again.
To Paraphrase, Stan Lee DIDN’T harass anyone, and had an understandable reasoning behind his thinking, and it also left room for the Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen storylines, which is awesome
Peter Parker never had to be the only Spider.
And elder abuse is just ugly.
I honestly feel sick seeing people come out of the woodworks to shit on an icon of popular culture like this on the day he died.
tl;dr Stan Lee was a good person and OP is a misinforming asshole
This what happens when y’all only read headlines instead of the actual article.
1.) The man JUST passed away days ago! Who goes “digging up dirt” on someone recently deceased? Like where is the home training? Manners? Just absolutely no couth.
2.) Those sexual harassment claims were proven FALSE. What was uncovered was documented elder abuse against a 95 year old man. Let that sink in for a minute. Stan Lee was the victim of elder abuse and falsely accused of something he didn’t do as basically a coverup.
3.) It’s beyond obvious that OP is not a true Marvel comics fan to spout off the bullshit line “injected racism into Marvel comics for decades”. Are you shitting me?! Injected racism where?! Stan Lee created and/or wrote for the majority of the Marvel characters that you probably call your faves. The first black superhero to appear in mainstream American comics was T’Challa. Who created him? Stan Lee. The first African American superhero in mainstream comics was Sam Wilson. Another Stan creation. The first African American female superhero to appear in mainstream comics was Ororo Munroe. Which comic house did she come from? Marvel. Who founded Marvel and wrote most of its stuff at the time? Stan Lee. And there are many more characters in the Marvel pantheon of various races, ethnicities, religions, sexualities, etc. that we could list out. All created under Stan Lee. Marvel Comics was Stan’s way of pushing back on the hatred, bigotry, racism, sexism, fascism, etc. that was going on at the time. He used his platform to address the social commentary of the day and pushback on inequality. So to accuse him of “injecting racism” into the comics that The House that Stan Built for decades is grossly misinformed and just plain lazy in terms of perform some research.
I’ll get off my soapbox now. Always do your research before coming at someone’s legacy, kids. #Excelsior #LongLiveTheKing
Okay, as a lot of you know, I work overnights at a hotel. It’s for a pretty recognizable brand, so we get a lot of high paying customers.
Part of my job is to prep the breakfast area before the breakfast team shows up so that breakfast is done by the time it needs to be. This, of course, means that I have to step away from the desk. It doesn’t really help that the time I need to start working on breakfast is also when customers start checking out.
So I had the bright idea of making a sign. It’s not fancy, the letters are pretty big, and it basically just says “Hey if you need me I’m in the kitchen, just give a holler.”
It’s worked really well so far; people see it, they call for me, and I get them taken care of with little to no fuss. Or, at least, it’s worked up until now.
This guy.
This. Fucking. Guy.
I finish prepping the breakfast area, I walk out, and at the front desk is a man, huffing and puffing. He harshly asks “Are you working the front desk?”.
I say with my best customer service voice “Yes sir, I just had to prep a few things for the breakfast team. Can I help you with anything?”
“Yeah you can help me by giving me some fucking service. I’ve been waiting for almost five minutes and I have to catch my flight!”
Oh boy. Here we go.
So I tell the man, “Well, sir, if you’ll look right in front of you, if you needed me, that sign tells you that I was in the kitchen.”
And this man. Just. Fucking looks at me. And says.
“You expect me to fucking read on my day off?”
And I just.
I was floored. That someone would say that. Completely unironically. With no hesitation.
